The truth is that today marks the first time I have ever truly gardened. I helped mom pick raspberries, peas and carrots in my childhood garden, but nothing past that. I have plenty of happy house plants, I even made clippings of the “twigg family plant” and used them to decorate tables at our wedding, but I today I got my hands dirty outside and it is very ADDICTIVE!
My mom brought me to what I consider the best place to buy your plants, the MCC sale. All the proceeds go to helping families in Peru, so you don’t feel bad about overspending, although you can’t really overspend. I got seven perennials ( I now know what that means) and one pretty flowering pot for $20! Later on, when we stopped to buy some soil just one of the plants I bought was priced at $15, so I got a super deal.
I arrived home proudly carrying my box of plants and got Dave to carry the soil to me, I then weeded and planted them all. My mom gave me two tomato plants and I promised to be awesome to them.
There is something very gratifying about gardening and especially when you are pregnant. The squatting and dirt digging action is a common motion in pregnancy pilates, and I can see why. My legs are burning now, I have to figure out to get this deep dirt out from under my nails, but the yard looks a ton better, and knitting may have to take 2nd place to my gardening in warm seasons to come.
