Hi there.
I am a mother, arts educator, crafter and playwright living in Winnipeg. I’ve been teaching drama classes for the past 11 years to youth in private and public schools, hospitals and community centres. I currently run Youth Programs at The Winnipeg Art Gallery, where I spent my days engaging and coming up with new ways to get youth excited about visual art.
I used to be Kerri Armstrong, but I then I started dating Dave Twigg. A really excellent way to get a boy to marry you is to create a character with their last name. It worked! I developed the character of Mrs. Twigg, a blending of Mary Poppins and Mr. Dress-up, but with a magic suitcase. I have been teaching “Mrs. Twigg’s Surprising Suitcase” class at Prairie Theatre Exchange School for 3 terms. I also married Dave, so my character name is actaully my real name (which can get confusing.)
I have a bachelor degree in Drama in Education from The University of Winnipeg, and I’m currently pursuing my M. Ed in Humane Education.
Okay, it’s scary. Thrifting, kids’ birthday parties, teaching… we have a lot in common! I’m so happy I found your site.
You are such an breath of fresh air Mrs Twigg! How do you manage it all!?
with passion!
Seriously, I had to drop about 5 commitments this year because I had no time for the ones that matter, my husband and daughter.
It is still amazing to witness what one person can do when their work is their true passion.
Hi,
I saw your comment on Amanda’s blog regarding Simply in Season Strawberry bread and was wondering if you could tell me what type of strawberries the recipe asks for? (chopped, pureed, smushed)?
Thanks
Mrs. Twigg, thank you for the blog about walking to work and watching movies with your husband. It was very sweet. Especially the part about your knitting. My wife knits and as I read your blog I could picture her sitting in the chair and it made me smile.
Dear Kerri,
When I do these outreaches, I always look at the blog first, I like the ‘Spies like Us’ post, you definitely have to make teaching interesting, and the spy game you play with your students is perfect for that :>
As a blog writing about technological advances in education, we thought you might like to go to Thinkfinity.org (http://www.thinkfinity.org), where you will see lots of free educational resources for standards-based K-12 lesson plans, educational games, music clips and videos – all relating to Black History Month and available for downloading.
Thinkfinity.org, which is the educational website of the Verizon Foundation, has posted Black History Month related free lesson plans, teacher resources and student activities that you and your readers might find useful for your classrooms.
We would appreciate it if you would post the URL and let your readers know about this free resource!
Please let me know if you would like any additional information or have any questions.
Many thanks in advance,
